Couples Counselling

Welcomes New Clients for Individual Counselling (adults and teen), as well as couples/family counselling.

Julia Fixsen (she/her) is a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor (#3132) with the Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists, a Counselling Hypnotherapist (#199) with International Association of Counselling Hypnotherapists and a Solution Focused Coach.

Through my experience and training, I have come to know that all people need a place where they can feel heard and supported. I offer a kind, compassionate, inclusive space for you along your counselling journey. I help my clients heal from trauma, repair relationships, and find a deeper and more meaningful connection to their lives.

When you work with me, you will learn how to identify and manage your emotions and understand how this affects your body. Often when clients have experienced trauma and feel strong emotions like anxiety, depression, and anger, they tend to disconnect from their bodies as a way of escaping the pain they are feeling. I help my clients to understand what is happening in their body, how that is directly related to their emotions and how this shows up in their relationships with themselves and others. Through this awareness, my clients are able to identify their unhealthy patterns and coping mechanisms, have more self-compassion, and a greater sense of peace. They feel more empowered to move forward in their lives as their relationships improve and they rediscover their own wisdom for healing and growth.

Areas Of Counselling Expertise

  • Anxiety (General Anxiety, Worry, Perfectionism)
  • Depression (feeling stuck, Loss of interest in life, Sadness)
  • Couples (Relationship Skills, Communication, Managing Conflict, Increased Intimacy)
  • Trauma (Abuse, First Responders, Loss)
  • Partners of First Responders (Unique Challenges, Stress, Worry, Relationships)
  • Teens (Trauma, Self-harm, Disordered Eating, Anxiety, Depression)
  • Chronic Illness (Pain, Medical Trauma, Depression, Isolation, Anxiety)
  • I also have a special interest in working with disordered eating recovery, body confidence, self-esteem, body image, self-acceptance.

Therapy Modalities Julia Uses In Her Counselling Practice

My counselling approach is trauma informed and client centered. Through mindfulness and with a strength-based lens, my goal is to help you find relief from your distress and gain new tools to achieve the results you desire personally and relationally.

In individual counselling, I use a trauma informed, integrative approach that draws on many modalities that are uniquely suited to the needs of each individual client, which include: * Somatic Awareness * Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) * Narrative Therapy * Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) * Hypnotherapy

Solution Focused Therapy. As a couples counsellor, I am trained in both Gottman Method Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Here we will explore your unique relationship patterns so that you can increase your closeness and intimacy. I create a safe space for couples to learn effective communication tools, develop deeper connections and manage their conflicts with compassion. After working with me, couples clients report more joy and ease and a renewed commitment to the quality of their relationship. Couples rebuild trust, become emotionally closer and are able to handle difficult situations together.

Personal Qualities/Strengths As a Counsellor

I believe that you have the capacity and ability to heal and grow from whatever you have experienced in life. I accept all parts of you, body, mind and spirit, and I have seen the best results with my clients when we address their whole self. It’s important to me to create a non-judgemental welcoming space for you to share your story while feeling supported so that you can tap into your inner strength and resources.

I love to learn and I regularly deepen my skills through continuing education so that I can support my clients better. I am compassionate, authentic and I love a good laugh. I feel so grateful to witness the growth and healing of my clients and I’m honoured that they have allowed me to be part of their journey.

Whitney (she/her) is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) #16735 with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors and holds a Masters of Education Counselling degree from University of Northern British Columbia.

I work with adults ages 18+ as well as children ages 3-9. I currently work online only on Mondays and Fridays, and in office Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

With all clients I work from a Person Centered & Trauma Informed perspective; meaning I believe that people often know how to change but get stuck when they are alone with trauma, hurt, and pain. My main role is to be present with you, work to help you know yourself, and collaborate with you on ideas for change. All while maintaining that you know best what you need for your healing. I hope to help clients resolve internal conflicts and understand their story in a way that draws out self-compassion and new perspectives. I am trained in EMDR and can use this modality with clients who are interested in working through past wounds and hurts in this way.

Though everyone’s experiences are unique we all know what it is like to hurt, feel joy, or be afraid. I hope that my personal experiences of healing through sport, meditation, therapy and self-esteem/self-compassion work allow me to draw on my own hardships and healings to relate to yours.

Areas of counselling expertise

I have extensive experience working with adults with depression, anxiety, grief/loss, divorce recovery, trauma and addictions. I am also experienced working with adults who struggle with ‘life issues’ such as low motivation, low self-esteem, stress, and relationship issues etc. I most often draw from IFS parts work, DBT and EMDR modalities to guide the therapy process.

I have a special focus in working with children using Expressive Play Therapy & Sand Tray Therapy. Play Therapy is best suited for children ages 3 – 9 and is a process of allowing children to express their feelings and inner world through the medium of expressive play. I also integrate aspects of mindfulness and emotion coaching in my work with children.

Therapy Modalities Whitney Uses In Her Counselling Practice

My first priority is to remain person central at all times, allowing my client’s inner life to show up in the counselling space so we can collaboratively discover goals and movement together. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Narrative Therapy, Expressive Play Therapy, and a Trauma-Informed perspective. I integrate Emotion Focused techniques, Internal Family Systems/Part Work, attachment theory, and mindfulness/DBT skills all with the hope of building a safe therapeutic relationship and helping clients understand and accept all parts of themselves.

I also offer EMDR therapy online in order to make this highly effective therapy more accessible to clients. Please enquire with our office or feel free to book a free consultation with me if you are curious about online EMDR therapy.

Therapy Modalities Sandeep Uses In Her Counselling Practice

I come from a client centred, cultural and trauma informed perspective in my counselling approach. I see counselling as a process where we have conversations and explore ways of strengthening the skills you already have and developing new ones to help you cope or guide you towards your goals.

In sessions, I use a variety of integrative approaches based on my client’s unique needs. The modalities that I draw on include:

  • Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT)
  • Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT)
  • Narrative Therapy
  • Gottman Couples Therapy
  • Somatic Awareness
  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)
  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
  • Solution Focused Therapy
  • Motivational Interviewing

As a couples therapist I draw from Gottman Couples Therapy and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT). Couples often come to see me when they feel challenged to communicate or understand each other and feel like they are growing apart. I help them to understand their needs, their partner’s needs and how to communicate that to each other. When couples are able to support each other’s emotional and physical needs, they become closer again and the spark is rekindled. After therapy, couples report increased happiness, greater intimacy and more relationship satisfaction.

Personal Qualities/Strengths As a Counsellor

I bring my authentic self to our sessions. What you see is what you get. I am sincere, direct, genuine and transparent. The person I am and the therapist I am are not separate. I bring my best and clients appreciate that they can connect easily with me and get open feedback and guidance.

I strive to create a space where clients are empowered to navigate though their challenges and come out of therapy more confident, feeling more whole, and proud of the hard work they have put in. I believe in people’s abilities to heal themselves, that we all have the strength and courage to find our way and heal with some support and guidance.

I also offer sessions in Punjabi, Urdu and Hindi.

Welcomes New Clients

Providing services for Individuals (adults & teens), as well as Family Counselling.

Dave (he/him) is a Registered Clinical Social Worker (#10020) with the BC Association of Social Workers and holds a Masters in Social Work from the University of Maine.

I have almost 25 years of experience in working in the mental health field with a wide variety of issues. My experience has taught me that people who deal with trauma and anxiety (or other mood disorders) often feel a sense of shame about the ways in which they think, feel and behave. I help clients to understand more about what is happening in their bodies, overcome their sense of shame and become more empowered to help themselves heal. Depending on the severity of the presenting issues, clients often report significant relief, feel more in control of their lives, more self compassion and greater happiness.

I was originally trained as a family therapist and have extensive experience working with teens and families. I especially enjoy helping teens or young adults work to sort through the challenges many face at those ages, whether with relationships, or in facing the obstacles of life as they move toward independence. Being a teenager is hard, and so is parenting one. I am here to help.

Areas of Counselling Expertise:

  • Depression (Lack of motivation, loss of interest in life and connections)
  • Life transitions (Career, Divorce/Separation, Relocations)
  • Trauma (PTSD, Injured Workers, Sexual Abuse)
  • Grief/loss
  • Addictions
  • Emotional Dysregulation. (Anger, Shutdown, Easily Triggered)
  • Teens (Self Harm, Adolescent Trauma, Family Counselling)
  • Elder Support (Caregiver Strain, Dementia, dealing with emotions of aging family members)

Therapeutic Modalities Dave Uses in His Counselling Practice:

I employ various modalities. such as EMDR, somatic therapies, cognitive behavioural therapy, narrative therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy, all within a trauma-informed practice lens. The type of modality chosen is tailored to meet the needs of each client. My goal is to create a safe and compassionate space that allows clients to freely express themselves and their struggles. I help clients with the education and tools they need to understand what is happening in their minds and bodies so that they experience more peace and freedom to be themselves.

Personal Qualities / Strengths As a Counsellor:

I am a curious and direct counsellor who works well with clients who are goal oriented and looking to tap into their resilience and make changes in their lives. I chose this work as part of my core belief of trying to make the world a better, more compassionate, and human-centered place. I come from a family of helpers and healers and felt a call to work with those who are struggling to find their own voices. With me, you get a bright, compassionate advocate. A good listener, who wants to help you sort through the difficulties of your life so that you feel happier or more in control of your body, your mood, your relationships, or whatever area of your life will help you feel more like yourself.
